Goderich Recreation Park Revitalization Committee Continues Fundraising

A Goderich councillor says the bids for a project aimed at revitalizing Recreation Park came in slightly over budget, but much closer than most members of the committee expected.

The total cost will be a little over $3-million.

Councillor Trevor Bazinet, who is a member of the Recreation Park Revitalization Committee, says the committee's original goal was to raise $500,000, but they've increased that to $1.1-million.  They are currently $340,000 short of that target.

"We surpassed our goal of fund-raising but as a committee we wanted to fund raise more so it shows the taxpayers that we're willing to relieve some of that tax burden that might be perceived to happen," says Bazinet. "So it's a goal to shoot for to have it done for September long weekend, Labour Day weekend, but as anyone knows with projects like this, things can take time, you're dealing with weather, you're dealing with all kinds of other things."

Bazinet feels a reasonable target for opening day of the new recreation park is the spring of 2019.
