Huron East Council Has Issues With Economic Development Board Proposal

The CAO for Huron East says his council has a few concerns regarding Huron County's Economic Development Board's proposal to review the delivery of service in the county.

Members of the Economic Development Board made a presentation to Huron East council recently and CAO Brad Knight says there are still still concerns for council. He says one concern is the language of the Board's report and suggests while it's been revised, with a greater focus on economic development.

Huron East council still has concerns about the original language. Knight says the $60,000 price tag for the consultants fee is also an issue and some Huron East councillors felt a county committee should perhaps focus on what the county has done or hasn't done in terms of economic development. Huron East councillors also wanted to know what the county's budget was for economic development and what they've achieved with that budget. Knight added there is a general lack of communication between the county and the lower tiers and addressing that concerns might solve a lot of the problems. Knight says in spite of their concerns council feels the issues is too important for Huron East not to be involved.

I think Huron East council's concerns generally stem from the original RFP back in June, some of the statements that were contained within it and while the current document has a more direct focus on economic development it's hard for our board to ignore the initial tone and direction from the Board earlier this year.”

The fact that you have a committee of county council that seems to be focused on the development process in the lower tiers and I think what came back from our council was council suggested that a county committee should perhaps focus on what the county has done or hasn't done in terms of economic development.”
