The MPP for Bruce-Grey Owen Sound says more residents are waiting ever longer for a regular family health care provider.
Bill Walker says the number of patients without a family doctor in the riding has jumped 65% in a year to 2,168 people.
Walker says it's an even bigger concern when the patient has complex medical needs, and they don't have critical access to a doctor to help manage their disease.
Walker says four years ago, Premier Kathleen Wynne promised that all Ontarians would have a primary care provider by 2018.
Walker explains how the situation has affected one of her constituents.
"In her case, it’s amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS -- a fatal, neurodegenerative disease -- so her access to a doctor is absolutely critical. Yet, it’s been almost two years and, in her words, impossible to find a primary care doctor in our communities, and that’s unacceptable," he says.
