North Huron Reeve Disappointed With Shared Services Agreement

The reeve of North Huron says one of the biggest disappointments his municipality faced in 2017 was the failure of a shared services agreement with a neighbouring municipality to live up to expectations.

Neil Vincent says the agreement was formed late in 2016, but started to unravel in early 2017 and that resulted in several staff changes among other things.

Vincent says it's unfortunate that in that situation you are either being raided by other municipalities or you are raiding other municipalities and being a small municipality, North Huron ended up providing some very good staff to other municipalities.

Vincent maintains sharing service is still the way to go, but for it to work people have to be willing to embrace change and give up past practices.

Looking forward to 2018 Vincent says the problem continues to be more demands from the Province with so many rules and regulations, but without the funding for the municipalities to comply.
