Being Vigilant Online

A Detective Sergeant with the OPP says it is not a surprise that a number of people face child pornography charges after multiple investigations in a number of counties.

Charges were laid against men aged 29 to 49 in communities across Huron, Perth, Bruce, Grey and Oxford after searches through January and February.

Detective Sergeant Terry Paddon says there is a lot more online crime going on.

"What we are trying to convey is this is just a typical week or month in the Child Exploitation Unit here in the OPP," says Paddon. "In terms of online enforcement of child sexual abuse."

"It's always incumbent upon us to be monitoring changes in technology," says Paddon. "But in terms of number of offenders out there, this is just a small snippet in a short period of time."

Families can go to protectchildren.ca to find resources on internet safety.

The website is put together by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.
