Rick Mercer Visits KDSS To Film Segment For CBC Show

Students at Kincardine District Secondary School are enjoying some national spotlight.

CBC's Rick Mercer stopped by the school on Tuesday to recognize its efforts to raise funds for Spread the Net, which helps fight disease by purchasing bug nets for sleeping in countries with high rates of malaria.

Mercer spent nearly an hour filming for his show, The Mercer Report, hosting an interactive assembly with the gathered students and says he was impressed.

"They were fantastic, this is exactly the size of school I love to come and visit, part of the video that we create involves everyone participating and if you get 10% deciding not to, it doesn't really work," says Mercer. "Everyone was participating today, I mean, they all got on their back and put their feet up in the air and acted like bacon on a pan, so that will look great."

After a 15-year run, Mercer is wrapping up the show in April and says his stop in Kincardine is among the final stops for the show.

"Spread the Net will be the last segment that airs on the Mercer Report, after 15 years," says Mercer. "There will be a one-hour special that airs after that, but that will be a clip show that looks back over 15 years, so the last original material will be the stuff that's being shot [in Kincardine]."

The Spread the Net segment is scheduled to air as part of the April 3 edition of the Rick Mercer Report.
