Patriots Drop Opening Game of North Conf. Final

The Siskins scored four unanswered goals in the latter half of the second to beat Mount Forest 9-4 in the opening game of the PJHL North Conference Final.

Ty Kulba had a pair of goals and an assist for Stayner. Curtis Ballantyne scored and set up three for the Siskins. Joey Visconti had a pair of goals in the win.

The Patriots were led by Klayton Hoelscher with a goal and two assists.

The Siskins opened the scoring less than a minute into the game but the Patriots' Jack Francis answered less than a minute later. Visconti scored his first of the game at 12:49 to give Stayner a 2-1 lead heading into the second.

Mount Forest scored twice in the first half of the second -- Thomas Haffner at 6:57 and Ryley Cribbin on the power play at 8:07. But things began to fall apart for the Patriots when Visconti scored his second of the game at 12:02 of the second. Kulba put the Siskin ahead at 17:17 of the second. JD Falconer's power play goal at 18:50 would stand as the game winner. Austin Fischer made it 7-3 Stayner heading into the third.

Ballantyne kept up the Siskins momentum early in the third. Hoelscher scored for the Patriots at 11:33. Kevin Boyd's unassisted goal at 12:14 would chase Patriots' netminder David Lobsinger from net. He'd allowed eight goals on 30 shots. Aidan Quish stopped 12 of 13 shots he faced.

Marcus Semiao made 33 saves for the Siskins. Game 2 of the PJHL North Conference Final is tomorrow night in Mount Forest at 8 p.m.
