Over 3,000 customers were affected by the initial outage around 2am in parts of West Luther, Proton, Bentinck, Normanby, Brant, Egremont, Ayton, Carrick, Minto and Arthur.
Just over 1,000 customers were still without electricity as of 5:30am.
Hydro One did not list a reason for the outage.
