Bluewater District Board Appoints Director Of Education

A woman who began her teaching career at the high school in Chesley in 1982 will soon be the local school board's director of education.

The Bluewater District School Board has announced that effective July 1st of this year, Alana Murray will be the Director of Education. Since March 2017, Murray has been filling the position on an interim basis.

Over the last 36 years, Alana Murray has assumed a diverse portfolio of roles locally, including as a department head, vice-principal, principal, and as a superintendent of education.

She has also expanded her expertise in areas of special education, safe schools, student mental health, and leadership development.

"Our board has made many gains in recent months through Alana’s unwavering support of the priorities of student achievement for all in literacy, numeracy, science, and technology, along with her strong focus on staff well-being, communication, and building community partnerships," says Board Chair Ron Motz.

Alana Murray commented, "I look forward to continuing to work with a remarkable group of senior leaders to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for the students and families we serve in Bruce and Grey Counties."
