Following last week’s announcement on funding for a new Perth County transit system, North Perth CAO Kris Snell says the Community Transportation Grant will give a big boost to the project.
Stratford and Perth County will receive $1.45-million over the next five years to assist with the creation of the system, which Snell says will be a county-wide partnership.
"We are looking at joint programs that would coincide or work together with each other that would actually build a fairly comprehensive transit program right across the geographic County of Perth," says Snell.
Snell says the development of a Perth County transit program will be a big help for seniors, young people and employers in terms of getting around the County and getting to work.
"One of the things we’re hearing both from employers and also municipalities are hearing from their youth engagement plans, is that transportation is one of the number one issues facing our communities," says Snell. "So this is hopefully one way we can address those issues and give people alternate means of transportation in their community."
Snell says the project is in the early stages of development, and discussions around the set up and implementation of the transit system will ramp up after a transit coordinator is put in place.
