North Huron Calls Special Council Meeting To Discuss Wingham Policing Again

North Huron council will hold a special meeting next Monday to reopen the discussion about having the Ontario Provincial Police cover the Wingham ward.

Council has directed staff to contact the Commissioner of the OPP to communicate council's desire to reconsider their proposal, asking for the same proposal or one that is similar to the original.

Reeve Neil Vincent feels it's important Wingham residents have an opportunity to view some of the information that has prompted council to reconsider its decision to keep the Wingham Police Service.

Vincent hopes a new timeline will allow council to "have better information to move forward on", with an eye on voting on the possibility of disbanding the Wingham Police Service before council's 'lame duck period'  that begins on July 27.

That meeting begins at 7oclock on Monday, June 11 in the North Huron council chambers in Wingham.
