Mayoral Candidate In Morris-Turnberry

The Municipality of Morris-Turnberry has its first candidate for mayor in the 2018 municipal election.

Deputy Mayor Jamie Heffer has filed nomination papers in hopes of replacing Paul Gowing, who is not running this year.

Heffer says "there is good potential in our municipality for businesses and economic growth", pointing to the recent Britespan Development as an example of local job creation.

At the June 5 council meeting, Mayor Gowing confirmed he would not seek re-election after 15 years in municipal politics, saying he supports Heffer's decision to run for mayor.

Heffer says he is looking forward to changes at the provincial level to giving consideration back to municipalities, noting "looking forward to seeing some of those words put into action".
