Conners recovered from a double bogey on the 11th hole with an eagle on the 14th to finish his opening round with a 1-under 69.
The 26-year-old PGA Tour rookie birdied the 4th and 9th holes and had a bogey on the 8th.
He is tied with fellow Canadian's Adam Hadwin and Ben Silverman. Americans J.J. Spaun and Andrew Landry share the lead at 7-under 63.
