Habitat Stewardship Funding Now Available From ABCA

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority has received this year's allocation from Environment and Climate Change Canada for its Habitat Stewardship Fund.

Stewardship, Land and Education Manager Kate Monk explains it's funding they've been getting for several years but they have to apply each year.

Part of the funding goes to outreach and education, so it covers the cost of free school programs, but she says the majority of the funding goes to projects that are on the ground, like for cover crops, fencing animals out of water courses, tree planting, and erosion control.

"The unique part about this is we can also go and find other funding for landowners and so in some cases, like wetland projects, we can often cover the entire cost of the wetland project for the landowner between the Habitat Stewardship Fund and other funding," says Monk.

Anyone considering a project for their property can call the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority and staff will work with them to develop the project and find funding.
