Avon Maitland public elementary teachers are back in school in Stratford this week to develop their teaching practice in readiness for the fall.
The focus is on a key part of Ontario's curriculum, mathematics, so teachers are finding out how to give Kindergarten students an early start while they learn through play.
Teachers are exploring the kinds of experiences and conditions that help the youngest students develop a conceptual understanding of mathematics, including spatial reasoning and coding.
They’ll also examine practical strategies to introduce math into the learning environment throughout the day.
The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) 2018 Summer Academy offers three-day courses across the province as part of a broad range of professional learning opportunities.
