Local School Board Still Waiting For Health Education Plan

The superintendent of education for the Avon Maitland District School Board says at this point they're not getting much information about the Health and Phys. Ed. curriculum they're going to be asked to teach this fall.

Jane Morris points out public schools in Ontario are expected to deliver the curriculum that's presented to them, but most of the information they're getting right now is limited to what they hear in the news. And while there may be a consultation about the curriculum, a return to the 1998 Health and Phys. Ed. curriculum may not be the best solution.

Morris says the concern is that the 1998 curriculum pre-dates the internet and the internet has a huge impact and presents some serious risks for children today. She believes not equipping them to deal with today's digital realities would be a serious omission.
