The warden of Huron County says he's had a few meetings with provincial ministers at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference in Ottawa.
Jim Ginn says the majority of those meetings have been as a group with the 15 wardens of Western Ontario presenting their case. Ginn explains they get 15 minutes with the minister to plead their case and he believes it's particularly important to get those opportunities when they're new ministers for their portfolios so you can, to some degree, set the direction of their ministry. He believes that's especially beneficial at this time when there are more ministers from rural Ontario than in the previous government.
Ginn says the ministers he's presented to so far seemed to be aware of what's going on in rural Ontario, but he adds it helps when you can go in as a group of Western Warden and say you're representing three million people in the 15 counties.
