Owen Sound Police Chief Announces Retirement

The Owen Sound Police Services Board is announcing the retirement of Chief William Sornberger.

In a release today the board says Chief Sornberger's retirement would be effective December 31.

The statement says Sornberger spent more than 11 years of his 42-year policing career in Owen Sound as deputy and chief and quotes him as saying:

"I'm proud of this organization and what we have been able to accomplish over these past seven years as chief. I want to thank the board, the men and women of our police service and the community. It has been an honour and a privilege to lead this organization."

The board says a nation-wide search for a new chief will begin shortly.
