Workforce Attraction A Priority In Huron County

Huron County's director of economic development says a big part of economic development is the part that isn't really visible to the general public.

In bringing members of the Economic Development Board up to date on economic development activity, Cody Joudry focused on the things that take up most of the time of the economic development staff. That involves supporting small business.

"We get a lot of client one on one meetings that people have business ideas or they want to start one or they're having challenges with their own. That's what our team is for," he says. "There's a lot of work going on around working with employers and workforce attraction challenges."

He adds right now there's a lot of work going on around helping employers with workforce attraction.

"There's investment attraction, which is actively bringing people to your area, but a lot of it is about supporting businesses that are already here," says Joudry. "That's where much of your growth comes from, in expansion and growth from within as opposed to sort of bringing people from the outside in."

Joudry adds the Economic Development Department has hired a new communication person that will start in the middle of September.
