Huron County's Economic Development Department has brought back a program designed to help local municipalities with economic development.
Director Cody Joudry explains the plan gave local municipalities access to money.
"In a normal year municipalities would be eligible to apply for up to $10,000 in funding to focus on things related to tourism, agriculture diversification, workforce attraction and investment attraction," said Joudry.
Under the new version of the program, funding will open up to non-profit groups in the second half of the year.
And Joudry points out one of the challenges for someone who has a marketable skill in a specific area and wants to start their own business, is that they are often not aware of the other skills they'll need, such as accounting.
"We run a whole series of seminars and training sessions. One of our most popular ones recently was on QuickBooks. There's one on how to write a business plan and social media marketing," said Joudry.
Staff members are ready to coach small business owners through some of the problems and connect them with resources that will be helpful to them.
