Owen Sound DIA to discuss free parking plan

A proposed complimentary parking plan will be up for discussion Wednesday night during a special meeting of the Owen Sound Downtown Improvement Area Board.

City Manager Wayne Ritchie and DIA Board Chair Dave Parsons will both make presentations.

The meeting will also centre around the re-organization of the Owen Sound DIA.

The DIA board voted in August to redirect a large portion of its membership levy to the city, which in turn will provide free parking downtown.

Last month, the board voted to close the DIA office and no longer have a staff. But the autonomous board would make decisions for the downtown.

Downtown members can learn more at tonight's meeting at 7 p.m. at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre on Third Avenue East in Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound DIA currently employs one full-time manager, one part-time communications coordinator, one full-time seasonal worker, one part-time seasonal worker and two summer students.
