Perth East Fire Chief's Commendation Award presented

The first female fire officer in Perth County has been honoured by her peers.

Captain Barb Myers is this year's recipient of the Perth East Fire Chief's Commendation Award.

Throughout her 15-year career, Myers has been instrumental in the department’s public education efforts.

She was recognized for the time and energy she devotes to schools and fire prevention programs, as well as other groups, causes and events in the community.

"The Fire Chief’s Commendation is a special way to recognize ordinary people and organizations, who do extraordinary things with regard to fire and life safety," said Chief Bill Hunter. "All our firefighters are ordinary people doing extraordinary acts of service to their community. Then there are those that seem to take their commitment to the next level. Captain Myers has continuously raised that bar."

Myers’ award includes a framed Commendation Certificate and the Fire Chief’s Commendation coin.
