The new chair of the Avon Maitland District School Board is very familiar with the role.
Colleen Schenk has been on the board for 24 years and has previously served as chair, vice-chair and president of the Ontario Public School Boards Association.
Schenk said her priority has always been to serve the students and make the best decisions for the education of the students.
She also said they have a busy year with some decisions over the renovations of the board's Stratford schools coming up.
"Maintaining our buildings, fixing our buildings. There have been some cuts in that area, so we'll make sure that we can keep up our older facilities. We're very diligent in doing that so it won't hit us as hard as some board, but we still need funds to do that for sure," she said.
Robert Hunking was acclaimed as vice-chair. New trustee Herb Klassen was elected as the board's representative to the Ontario Public School Boards' Association and trustee Nancy Rothwell was acclaimed as the OPSBA alternate representative.
