New snowmobile trail approved near Walkerton

A new snowmobile trail on the east side of Walkerton has been approved by Brockton Council.

Paul MacLennan, a groomer and coordinator of the Saugeen Snowmobile Club made a presentation to council detailing the new trail and its purpose.

"This will end up making things easier for people to get out of town from the East side," said MacLennan. "The main reason for the snowmobile trail is to support local business."

MacLennan said the trail will encourage more snowmobile traffic into town, which will help local businesses attract more winter customers. He said the trail will run on mostly municipal land.

"We would be running on old town road allowance, and then on town property into the East Ridge Industrial Park," he said.

On top of getting the trail approved, MacLennan noted that the trail can be altered in the future to make way for further development at the industrial park.

The trail should be ready by early January.
