Digging out today: more snow coming

It's another snow day for thousands of local students.

School bus pickups were cancelled for the third day in a row, and some schools closed due to whiteout conditions caused by persistent lake-effect snow squalls and streamers.

Parents and caregivers have been forced to find alternative arrangements for children, and teachers have had to make significant adjustments because many students missed classes last week as well due to stormy weather.

There were several road closures this morning because of the dangerous driving conditions.

A snow squall warning remains in effect for Huron, Bruce and Grey counties, there's a blowing snow advisory for all of Midwestern Ontario and an extreme cold warning for all of the region.

Some areas could see a further accumulation of five to 15 centimetres through the day, and another five to 10 centimetres overnight.

The longer-range forecast calls for snow and squalls to continue Thursday and Friday.
