GPS allows OPP to track stolen truck to Wellington North

Wellington County OPP officers got a little help from a GPS device in tracking down a stolen pickup truck and it's occupants.

Police received a report Monday morning that two pickup trucks had been stolen from a garden centre in the hamlet of Eramosa. One of the vehicles a Chevrolet Silverado was equipped with a GPS.

Police were able to use the GPS to track the Silverado to a field near Damascus in Wellington North. Two suspects were found with the vehicle.

Officers also found a trailer hitched to the truck that contained two snow machines. They had been stolen from a self-storage depot in Fergus earlier in the day.

A search of the two individuals revealed a set of keys for a stolen F350 pickup truck, a small quantity of crystal meth, and sports equipment that was stolen during a vehicle entry at a residence on Highway 7.

Further investigation led police to the stolen F350 that had been abandoned on Kaine Hill Drive, east of Guelph.

Two Guelph residents have each been charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000, and two counts of possessing stolen property under $5,000. They have also been charged with possession of methamphetamine and breaching conditions of release.
