The Huron Shores Transit Initiative now has the funding it needs to proceed with a feasibility study.
Co-Chair Glen Baillie said their application for a $2 million grant over five years had been approved by the previous Liberal government, but it was put on hold by the Progressive Conservative government.
Baillie said they learned this week that the grant has been approved.
The next step is to hire a consultant to do the feasibility study. Those results will be presented to Lambton Shores council, which is the sponsoring municipal council.
The transit system would cover parts of Lambton Shores, North Middlesex, Perth and Huron counties.
