Blowing snow closes many roads Thursday

There is uneasiness in thousands of local households on Thursday because of stormy weather, closed roads, and cancelled school bus pickups or closed schools.

The wind is the main culprit. Blowing and drifting snow continue to create dangerous driving conditions.  The conditions have forced police to close many roads in Bruce, Grey, and northern Huron and Wellington counties.

Police say not all roads will have a physical barricade in place, but motorists are asked to respect the closures and avoid travelling if at all possible.

Wednesday, OPP officers had to deal with dozens of motorists stuck and stranded on roadways in heavy drifts in near white-out conditions.

Narrow bands of snow squall activity will continue on Thursday, mainly over northern Bruce and Grey counties.

Some areas could get another 10 centimetres through the day and the bitterly cold weather will continue.
