Two volunteers with the newly-formed Huron and Area Search and Rescue put their training to work, a little sooner than they expected.
They were travelling to field training at the Hullett Conservation Area on Saturday when the noticed a stray horse on Highway 4.
Spokesperson Heather Boa said a horse in that situation can be frightened and very unpredictable, but the two men managed to calm the horse down and corral it.
Boa said the horse could have been hurt on the highway or motorists could have been injured, so the two volunteers were able to use their training for a happy ending to the story.
