Conservation Authorities feel the pinch from Ontario's budget

The General Manager of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority says all conservation authorities in the province will lose roughly 50 per cent of their transfer payments in the new provincial budget.

Brian Horner said the exact amount for the ABCA will be a reduction of $55,000.

The grants they are losing are for flood forecasting, but because that's a core mandated program from the province,  they will continue to provide that service.

Horner said they'll be discussing the reduced transfer payments at this Thursday's board meeting, and he doesn't know how they'll continue to pay for the flood forecasting service.
