The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is hosting two events next month to remove Garlic Mustard plants from the Clinton Conservation Area and from McNaughton Park in Exeter.
Conservation Educator Nina Sampson explains the Garlic Mustard plant is very invasive and does not have any natural predators.
The plant also comes up sooner and goes to seed very quickly, and produce a lot of seeds. The plant can quickly take over the undergrowth of an entire forest.
The Conservation Authority is inviting volunteers to at the Clinton Conservation Area at the south end of Clinton from 10:00 a.m. until noon or at McNaughton Park in Exeter from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25th to help remove the plants.
There is one note of caution from Sampson.
"After you're done the event, make sure that you wash your clothes and wash the shoes that you wore so that you're not transporting the seeds from where we've taken it out to your own back yard."
