Long weekend traffic blitz numbers

OPP detachments are releasing their statistics from the Easter weekend seat belt blitz.

Overall more than 10,000 traffic related charges were laid through the long weekend but there were no fatalities.

In Wellington County, OPP laid 161 speeding charges along with three impaired driving charges. There were also a dozen charges dealing with seat belts, stunt driving and for failing to move over for an emergency vehicle. There were also three charges laid for distracted driving.

South Bruce OPP laid a total of 55 charges, 39 of those for speeding.

The weekend charges serve as an important reminder to drivers and other road users that when the OPP targets one particular behaviour during a traffic safety campaign, officers are highly committed to and well-resourced for enforcing all traffic laws.
