The combined efforts of a number of local police officers resulted in the arrests of two men Thursday for alleged vehicle thefts.
The investigation started late Wednesday night, when Grey County OPP responded to a report of a Dodge pick-up truck that had just been stolen from a residence on Southgate Road 41.
While patrolling the area, police came upon an abandoned Chevrolet pick-up truck in a ditch. That truck had been reported stolen from Kincardine.
Meanwhile, Wellington County OPP spotted the stolen Dodge along Highway 9 and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The pickup drove into a farmer's field in the area of Concession 12 in the Municipality of South Bruce. The driver fled on foot when the vehicle became stuck. A passenger was arrested at the scene. Shortly after, the second male suspect was arrested nearby.
The passenger was an 18-year-old male from Wellington North Township. He is scheduled to appear in Walkerton Court in May to face a number of charges, including Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
The driver of the stolen Dodge, a 27-year-old man from Hanover, remains in custody with a video appearance scheduled for Monday. Charges against him include Theft Over $5000 of a Motor Vehicle, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Flight from Peace Officer.
OPP officers from the Grey County, South Bruce, and Wellington County detachments, as well as the OPP Emergency Response Team, an OPP Canine Unit, and Hanover Police Service and West Grey Police Service were all involved in the arrests or subsequent investigations.
