Hanover's Public Library Board Chair is urging people to join the fight after the province reduced funding to the Inter-Library Loans service.
The Southern Ontario Library Services system provided shipping so that every library in the province could borrow or lend books and materials from each other.
However, a 50 per cent budget cut forced them to shut down deliveries.
Hanover Public Library Board Chair Kathi Maskell made a presentation to council's committee of the whole last night asking for the town to appeal to the province to reverse that decision. The town will also ask other communities for support. Residents can sign a petition at the Hanover Library.
In 2018 the library borrowed 1,033 items from other libraries for Hanover members. The library also loaned 2,619 items to other libraries. Up 7,300 packages were delivered or picked up in Hanover in 2018.
