North Perth council approves 2019 budget

North Perth has officially passed its 2019 budget.

Deputy Mayor Doug Kellum, this year’s budget chair, said the overall budget increased 4.5 per cent.

"Operating budget coming in at just over $14 million, with the project budget just over $18 million. We had some great public input," he said.

Kellum said the municipality has a number of projects on the books this year that are reflected in the final budget.

"Two large projects that come to mind are the continuation of the North East Master Plan, and secondly would be the Albert storm trunk, just to name a couple," he said.

In terms of the tax levy increase, Kellum said the 3.7 percent increase wasn’t a hard number to decide on.

"Actually we were pretty focused with coming up with the 3.7 per cent levy.   Obviously that will change based on the individual circumstance, but you know, we’re continuing to grow," he said.

Last year, the municipality issued a record 450 building permits, with 224 being residential.
