Man in custody after smoke bombs thrown at Owen Sound police

An Owen Sound man faces a number of charges following a police standoff early Sunday morning.

Officers with the Owen Sound Police Service and OPP responded to a report of smoke filling a hallway at a residence on 2nd Avenue East around 2 a.m.

The apartment where the smoke was coming from contained a male and a 9-year old girl.    After the man allegedly became uncooperative with police, he barricaded himself with his daughter in the apartment.

Officers with shields and rifles soon blocked traffic at a portion of 10th street east.

After negotiating the release of the man's daughter, the suspect allegedly threw smoke bombs at officers.

The man surrendered to police at 5 a.m.     He is facing several charges, including arson, mischief and possessing a weapon for a deadly purpose.
