Police charge male with 13 fraud related charges after lengthy investigation

West Grey police have laid numerous charges related to an ongoing fraud investigation.

On April 23, 2019, West Grey police were notified that a fraud had occurred. A woman told officers that her mother had received a letter of collection from “Money Mart” which indicated that cheques had been written from her account and that some of the cheques had been declined. Upon investigating personal financial statements, it was determined the woman never wrote the cheques. Money Mart's Financial Crime Department provided video of the suspect using the cheques in Hanover, Owen Sound and Guelph, and after further investigation, a second victim was identified.

Police executed an arrest warrant on May 15 and brought the 26-year-old Owen Sound man into custody, where he was charged with 13 fraud-related crimes. The man was held for a bail hearing out of the Walkerton Courthouse where he was remanded in custody.
