West Grey police seize cocaine and cash in RIDE check

West Grey police have seized over four ounces of cocaine and over $10,000 in cash during a RIDE program.

The RIDE check was conducted Saturday evening along Grey Road 3 in the former Normanby Township.

Speaking with the driver of a Toyota, an officer detected the odour of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath. The driver provided a sample which registered that he was below the legal blood alcohol limit.

A search of his vehicle was conducted, and zip lock bag containing 4.1 ounces of cocaine was found in the back seat. Beside that baggie was a bag that contained over $10,000 Canadian currency as well as some other foreign currency.   The street value of the drugs is estimated to be $11,600.

A 27-year-old Ayton man is now charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
