Styrofoam recycling will be in the spotlight later this week.
The Municipality of Brockton, the Town of Hanover and the Canadian Plastics Industry Association are hosting the launch of the Polystyrene Densifier.
Through a partnership with Bruce Power and the Canadian Plastics Industry Association, the Brockton Centre will be able to collect polystyrene, and process it for shipping to end markets using polystyrene densification technology.
At full operation, this will increase recycling diversion of polystyrene by up to 90 per cent and reduce demand on landfill space.
That launch is Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Brockton Recycling Centre, just outside Walkerton on Highway 9.
The event will include a demonstration of a new densifier system which compresses foam polystyrene into dense bricks allowing for more effective and efficient shipping to end-markets.
