Bruce Power is committing $120,000 over four years to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life events across Huron and Bruce counties.
The events include the 16th annual Relay For Life in Goderich, which is being held tonight at Goderich District Collegiate Institute. Organizers said the events are a chance for the community to celebrate those who live and have lived in the face of cancer and those moving past cancer.
Bruce Power's commitment runs from 2019-2022 and builds upon the relationship that was established in 2012
By 2022, Bruce Power will have donated $330,000 to local Relay For Life events.
Eric Chassard, Bruce Power’s executive vice president, projects and field services, said the company is proud to continue its relationship with the CCS and its Relay for Life events.
“Every person is touched by cancer, either through personal experience or through a loved one, so we recognize the importance of Relay For Life events and supporting cancer research,” Chassard said. “We honour those who are currently living with cancer, and those moving past it.”
“At CCS, we know that working together is the only way we can achieve all that we do,” Van Geem said. “It’s thanks to corporate partners like Bruce Power that we’re able to host Relay For Life events, which generate significant funds for our organization. Money raised allows us to continue our work of improving the cancer experience by helping people live longer and enhancing their quality of life. We do this by funding groundbreaking research, providing trusted information about cancer, offering programs and services to help people with cancer and help their families cope, and advocating governments for important social changes.”
In the meantime, in North Perth, a Relay for Life takes place Saturday night starting at 6:30 p.m. at Listowel District Secondary School.
