Huron-Perth Health Unit merger to help with later merger with Grey-Bruce

The chair of the Huron County Board of Health says the merger of the Huron and Perth health units has not been affected by the governments plan to merge the 35 boards throughout the province to create ten new boards.

Dave Jewitt said Huron and Perth are still meeting regularly.

”We've kept with our monthly meeting schedule. The province is still supportive of the amalgamation talks with Perth and we're moving forward, still with a date of January 1st as our target from the province," he said.

Huron and Perth are scheduled to eventually merge with Grey-Bruce, and Jewitt says there are some benefits to this initial merger.

“The province is very much aware that we're currently in transition with Perth and so they've encouraged us to continue on with those conversations," said Jewitt. "I think one of the nice things about it is that when we go to the broader entity, the learning that we get from this transition, I think will help with the next transition. So I think it's a good thing and we're continuing to move forward.”
