Former Blue Jay Jason Grilli to visit Clinton Raceway for fundraiser

Former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher, Jason Grilli, will be at the Clinton Raceway next Sunday to raise money for Clinton Mustangs Minor Baseball and the Ben Lobb Minor Baseball Camps in Clinton.

Grilli pitched for eleven different teams over a twenty-year Major League Baseball career. He says it's not easy to make the decision to retire.

He says he looked over this shoulder as he was walking to the dugout after his last pitch and wondering if this was really the end.

“My last inning and my last pitch, I looked over my shoulder as I was walking towards the dugout, going like is this it and I still had some gas left in the tank. My last pitch was 95 and I thought, man, I can still do this at 41, you know.”

Grilli says, looking back, it was a good career, with lots of highs and lows and he says he doesn't remember specific moments as much as periods of time. Although, he says he does remember one inning where he gave up four home runs.

But he says you hope you have more good moments than bad.

“Would I have liked to have more good moments than bad, sure, that's what you shoot for, you know. I didn't have a Hall of Fame career – I've had Hall of Fame moments, got to make the All-Star team, which was a goal of mine, I got to play in a World Series and a lot of playoff games, raise the banner with the Toronto Blue Jays, my childhood team.”

Grilli will be at the Clinton Raceway next Sunday from two till four.
