Huron County councillors were brought up to date last week on how changes to the provincial health care system announced last February will impact health care in the county.
CAO Meighan Wark said at this point, both of the Huron County long term care facilities and the Emergency Services Department have participated in a self-assessment that indicates potential interest in participating in an Ontario Health Team that would include agencies from Huron and Perth County.
Wark said they have not heard from the province whether they would consider the proposal from the county. She said that's expected sometime this fall.
“Both our long term care facilities from Huron County and the Emergency Services Department have participated in a self-assessment that indicates potential interest in participating in an Ontario Health Team that would include agencies from Huron and Perth County," she said.
Wark added it's too early to say what, if any, financial impact the changes will have on the county's budget. For now, at least, it's more about re-configuring what was the Local Health Integration Networks.
“This is more, I think, a restructuring, along the lines of restructuring the Local Health Integration Networks. I think that there are other initiatives that may have an impact on the dollars and cents associated with the county's budget," she said.
