A lack of homes on the market pushes prices higher in Grey Bruce

Home prices in Grey Bruce Owen Sound continue to push higher amid an ongoing supply shortage.

The Real Estate Association of  Grey Bruce Owen Sound said the value of homes sold in June jumped 14 per cent from a year ago, selling for just over $389,000. The year-to-date price is up about 10 per cent for the first six months of the year to $374,513, compared to the same period last year.

The local Real Estate Association says 268 residential units changed hands last month, which is down 17 per cent. So far this year, 1,246 units sold, down 13.7 per cent from the same period in 2018.

New residential listings in the region numbered 492 units in June 2019. This was an increase of 10.1 per cent on a year-over-year basis. While this was up from the June 2018 figure, it was otherwise the lowest June level in more than 15 years.

Overall supply remains near record lows. Active residential listings numbered 1,067 units at the end of June. This was an increase of 10.7 per cent from the record low at the end of June 2018 but was still only half the long-term average for this time of the year.
