Motorist faces impaired charges after toddler falls out of moving van in Auburn

Huron County OPP officers and paramedics were called to a home in Auburn to assist an injured toddler and ended up laying criminal charges.

Police officers were called about 7:30 pm yesterday and found a two-year-old child had sustained significant injuries. The toddler was taken to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Officers then learned the child fell out of a moving a passenger van in Auburn through the rear hatch onto the roadway. Investigators learned the driver had consumed alcohol, and she was found to be above the legal limit.

Further investigation revealed the driver of the van had consumed some alcohol thus a roadside screening test was conducted. The driver complied with the test and her test resulted in a fail. She was immediately arrested for Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus.

The accused was then transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where she provided two samples of her breath to the qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both tests were above the legal limit.

A 30-year-old Goderich resident faces charges Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus, Improper Tires and Insecure Load. She was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for August 19, 2019, at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. Her vehicle was impounded and her licence has been suspended for an automatic 90 days.
