Five charged in Owen Sound drug bust

Thousands of dollars worth of highly toxic purple fentanyl has been seized and five people are facing charges following a drug investigation in Owen Sound.

The Owen Sound Police Service said on Tuesday, the Drug Enforcement Unit, the Criminal Investigations Branch and uniformed officers executed a search warrant at an apartment on 2nd Avenue East.  Five people were arrested at the scene and more than $3,000 worth of fentanyl was seized, along with smaller quantities of crystal methamphetamine, oxycodone, more than $1,000 in cash, stolen property and a prohibited weapon.

Three of the people arrested were wanted on outstanding arrest warrants and are being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Wednesday. A fourth suspect is also being held in custody. Police have not released what offences they are being charged with.

The fifth suspect, a 33-year-old Owen Sound man, was already on house arrest following convictions for previous drug trafficking offences.  Police said he was the target of their investigation and he is now charged with possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine, possession of oxycodone, possession of proceeds of crime, possession of property obtained by crime and two counts of breaching recognizance of bail.
