A Brockton resident has been ripped off in a police officer scam.
The victim received a phone call from a man who identified himself as a police officer. The victim was advised that police had recovered his social insurance card, along with other documents, with blood all over them.
The victim was informed that an arrest warrant had been issued for him, and in order to stay out of jail, he needed to provide a certain sum of money.
The Brockton man sent three payments of $500 each to the scammer via his Apple Pay, before realizing that it was a fraud.
Provincial police continue to receive reports from residents stating they have been defrauded, or that they have received phone calls, mail, or emails from scammers.
