11 new businesses open in Clinton this month

September 28 is going to be a big day for downtown Clinton.

Community Improvement Coordinator Angela Smith says the "Win This Space" Initiative that was designed to provide free rent for a store in the downtown area was expanded to spaces for five contestants, and then enough money trickled in to add another two contestants.

Smith said that got the attention of several other business owners in other places and they decided to relocate to Clinton.

There are 11 new stores opening in downtown Clinton, and on September 28 Smith is staging an event called the Grand Openings in Clinton Celebration. They will have a mass grand opening for all eleven businesses. They'll also have a children's festival, horseback rides, an old car show, a motorcycle show and a large craft vendors market.

Smith said they'll also give shoppers a chance to win $1,000 vouchers.

"Starting on the 28, anyone who visits downtown businesses will be given a ballot to put in the big drum, and every Friday I'm going to draw out a winner and this will happen for 10weeks and the winner will get a thousand dollars in downtown vouchers."

CORRECTION: Corrected from an earlier version that stated people who purchased from downtown businesses would get a ballot. No purchase is necessary.
