A report of an overdose in Normanby lead to a Harriston man being charged with manslaughter.

On April 19, 2019, West Grey police responded to a report of an overdose at a home in Normanby and found a 46-year-old man dead. Toxicology reports showed the man died from a carfentanil overdose.

On Wednesday, police charged 34-year-old Tyler Geiger with manslaughter and trafficking carfentanil. He's due in court on Friday.

“This incident demonstrated that the opioid crisis is in the Grey Bruce area and that law enforcement will work effectively with the community to prosecute those who are bringing the drugs into our communities," said West Grey Police Chief  Robert Martin in a media release. "Drug trafficking will not be tolerated in the Municipality of West Grey and our members will continue to exert all resources needed in taking these drugs off of the streets. I applaud our frontline officers and investigators on their tireless efforts in keeping the Municipality of West Grey one of the safest in the province.”
