Bruce County has appointed two new interim Directors during a special Executive Committee Meeting today.
Earlier this week, Bruce County suspended, or terminated the employment of a number of top employees in connection with compliance issues at the Brucelea Haven Long Term Care home in Walkerton.
Deputy Treasurer Susan Petrik has been named as the acting director of human resources.
“Ms. Petrik has demonstrated a deep appreciation, understanding and dedication to Bruce County, serving in the role of Deputy Treasurer,” said Bruce County Warden Mitch Twolan. “She will provide instrumental leadership within our Human Resources department, which serves a multitude of needs across our entire organization."
Chief of Operations Steve Schaus has been named as the acting director of paramedic services.
“We are thrilled to have a leader with Mr. Schaus’ depth of experience step up to this new role,” says Warden Twolan. “As Chief of Operations, Steve has impressed, managing the daily operations of the County’s Emergency Medical Services Division, and it is this expertise and unwavering commitment to our community that he will bring to the Acting Director of Paramedic Services position.”
“Both bring a wealth of knowledge to these portfolios and I am very pleased that they have accepted the added responsibilities to their current positions,” added Warden Twolan
On Monday, the county terminated the employment of its Director of Human Resources, Director of Health Services and also the administrator of Brucelea Haven.
The county's CAO remains suspended with pay "pending further considerations." Bettyanne Cobean is acting CAO. Griffin Allen, the administrator with Primacare, takes over as the administrator of Brucelea Haven.
Bruce County officials are releasing no further information about the situation right now.
